What is humanitarian data?

Humanitarian studies examines global crises caused by natural disaster, conflict, and/or political instability as well as responses to these events by governments and civil society organizations. This page covers resources that collect and disseminate data and statistics about humanitarian crises around the world.

Humanitarian Data Sources

OCHA stands for the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

UNHCR stands for the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Refugees.

Humanitarian Data Exchange
An open data platform from OCHA's Centre for Humanitarian Data. Provides datasets for analysis as well as reports and interactive data visualizations.

UNHCR Data
Offers reports, data, visualizations, and digital tools including the Refugee Population Statistics Database, the Operational Data Portal, the Resettlement Data Finder, and a Microdata Library.

Humanitarian Response
Digital tools from OCHA for the coordination and assessment of humanitarian response. Provides data by country as well as reports and visualizations.

ReliefWeb
OCHA service allowing users to search by country, natural disaster, topic, and updates to find statistics, reports, and visualizations.

World Health Organization -- Ongoing Emergencies
Find health information about current and past disease outbreaks, environmental disasters, and humanitarian crises.

Armed Conflict Location & Event Data Project (ACLED)
Offers open access disaggregated data, analysis, and mapping visualizations through collecting dates, actors, locations, fatalities, and all types of reported political violence and protest events around the world.
