University weather emergencies and closings

As weather patterns become more severe, people in the north east are facing dangerous weather and finding themselves unprepared.

Update contact information in your department. Staff should include a home or mobile telephone number and secondary email. An emergency contact should also be provided. Contact information on the university's Banner should also be kept up to date.

After Hurricane Sandy, the university lost communication via telephone and internet, but the university FB page and twitter feed were active and kept updated. These became the only source of communication notifying staff and students of closings, class cancellations and campus updates until power was restored.

The Fordham University FaceBook page and Fordham University Twitter page are public. You do not need to have an account to view them.

Before a disaster occurs, locate hotspots near your home. If you have lost power, you can still maintain some level of communication by visiting wi-fi hotspots near you. Bookstores, coffee shops, restaurants, pubs and libraries frequently have free wi-fi.  Public parks and train stations are adding it.
