Reference Help: Library Catalogs

Finding Books Using the Library Catalogs or OneSearch

There are two Fordham Library catalogs: The Classic Catalog and The Enterprise Catalog. Both catalogs are available from the Library Homepage and should provide access to the same content, but their search interfaces are very different. The Library OneSearch should also provide access to all of the content in the library catalogs. Which one should you search? That depends on your preference. Explore them all and use the research tool that is most comfortable for you.

Searching the Enterprise Catalog

The Enterprise Catalog is available via the Library Catalog tab at the center of the library homepage.

For a Basic Search, type a word or phrase in the top Keyword box.

Then limit your search to the Library Catalog option (second box).

Then limit your search using the Field option (third box).

Use the Advanced Search option to search Multiple Fields simultaneously (author, title, subject) or to exclude unwanted words.

Searching the Classic Catalog

The Classic Catalog is available via the Collections drop down menu in the top black bar of the library homepage.

The OneSearch

The OneSearch is our Discovery tool, allowing you to conduct one search to find items in our catalogs AND many of our databases. You can start a Basic search in the OneSearch from the Library Homepage by entering search terms in the single box provided there, or you can click on the words OneSearch Advanced to create a more sophisticated search using multiple search boxes.

Browsing the Fordham Collection

If you like to browse the stacks, check out the Library of Congress Classification Outline to find call numbers for your topic.

Document Delivery

If you only need a few pages, a chapter, or an article from an item that we have in our print collection, submit a Document Delivery request form and we will scan those pages for you.

Need Materials from Outside Fordham?

Cannot find items you need for your research?

  • Materials not owned by Fordham can be requested through Interlibrary Loan.
  • Consortia privileges provide you with additional access to other research collections* beyond Fordham’s holdings.

*Check with the library you intend to visit to be sure that in-person access is available at this time.
