Background Research

Do background research on your topic and take notes of key details or terms with the reference sources on this page or the resources at the start of this guide. These details (production information, biographical information, dates, locations, specific terms describing performance, etc) will provide the keywords or limiters to use when searching in catalogs & databases.

Finding Books

• Use the video tutorials on the Finding Books page for help searching the catalog for books and learning how to place holds to have books delivered to your desired campus.
• Be mindful of variations in spelling i.e. theater vs. theatre or Noh, No, or Nō (form of Japanese theatre).
• Try searching the author fields in the Library Catalog to learn how locate plays or other writings by a specific playwright.
• For books about a playwright or an actor, try searching that person's name in the subject field.

Finding Articles
