Bible Resources

Locating Bibles in the library is not a simple task since there are many versions and translations. This page contains tips for locating different kinds of Bibles in English and associated resources at Fordham Libraries.

Finding Bibles

If you need to find a Bible for class, check your syllabus or ask your professor if a specific translation or version is required.

Different versions and translations of the Bible can be noted through A) the name or initials in the title of a Bible or B) through information in library catalog records. Here is a list of some versions/translations:

Christian Standard Bible, English Standard Version, Jerusalem Bible, Jewish Publication Society TANAKH version, King James Version, New American Bible Revised Edition, New American Standard Bible, New International Version, New Jerusalem Bible, New King James Version, New Living Translation, New Revised Standard Version, New Revised Standard Version Catholic Edition, New Revised Standard Version Updated Edition

 

decorative  Searching the library catalog is the best way to find print and electronic Bibles in the library collection. Use the names or initials above in your search to locate specific translations. Print Bibles located in Reference must remain in the library for shared use.

► Bible commentaries are companion texts written by scholars that help researchers understand historical and cultural context, theological concepts, and language used in the Bible. Commentaries can cover the whole Bible or a single book. Find commentaries in the library catalog through searching for a commentary by name, natural language searching, or searching by subject.
