Walsh Library has had to roll with the punches from the very start. In the fall of 1999 -- not long after its grand opening -- heavy rainfall led to flooding on the lower level of the new library building. More than 20 years later, Hurricane Ida brought even more devastating flooding. The destruction caused by Ida was significant, resulting in millions of dollars worth of damage, as well as the displacement of library staff members with offices on the lower level. Photos of water damage from both floods can be found below.
Disaster struck Walsh in a new form with the arrival of COVID-19. Once again, the library learned to adapt and meet the needs of the university community in the face of extreme hardship. Photos of the library's response to the pandemic, as well as other materials related to the university as a whole, can be found in the Fordham University COVID-19 Digital Archive.
