Scholarly Communication: Author Rights

Guide to understanding author rights and publishing, including publishing through Fordham

Author Rights

Author rights are a bundle of rights that you may maintain depending on what you publish, where you publish it, and the terms agreed upon in a publishing contract.  They may include permissions to:

  • Reproduce your work.
  • Distribute you work.
  • Create derivatives, iterations, or adaptations or your work (including translations).
  • Authorize others to exercise any of these rights.
  • Transfer any or all of these rights to another organization (publisher) or individual.
