Wiggins and McTighe

Understanding by Design is the work of Grant Wiggins and Jay McTighe.  This text provides information and a guide to unit construction that allows teachers to design curriculum, instruction, and assessments that lead students at all grade levels to genuine understanding.

What is Understanding by Design?

According to Authentic Education, "Understanding by Design® (UbD™) is a framework for improving student achievement. Emphasizing the teacher's critical role as a designer of student learning, UbD™ works within the standards-driven curriculum to help teachers clarify learning goals, devise revealing assessments of student understanding, and craft effective and engaging learning activities."

Learning Goals and Objectives

A key aspect of UbD is creating learning objectives and goals that truly engage students in authentic and transferrable learning.  Below are some of the books that the Fordham library has to offer on writing learning objectives and goals for your classroom.
