What is Brexit?

"Brexit" combines the words British and Exit and refers to the process initiated by the referendum in Britain in June, 2016 in which 51.9% of the people voted to leave the European Union. The referendum was the fulfillment of a promise made by former Prime Minister David Cameron. Brexit has led to a period of chaos in British politics from 2016 to the present because the issue of leaving the European Union has sharply divided the public and this division cuts across party lines.
