Web Accessibility at Fordham University Libraries: Working with Images

Understanding Image Concepts

Images must have text alternatives (alt-text) assigned to them to describe their information and purpose. The Web Accessibility Initiative of W3C categorizes the following 7 image concepts:

 

  • Informative images

  • Decorative images

  • Functional images

  • Images of text

  • Complex images such as graphs and diagrams

  • Groups of images

  • Image maps
