The Fordham University Libraries remains committed to providing Library services and resources to our faculty and students throughout this academic year.
More information about end-of-semester returns and renewals for the Spring 2021 semester is provided below.
During the week of May 3, 2021, the due dates for all materials already borrowed from the Fordham Libraries will be extended to June 1, 2021. This due date extension will apply to all current undergraduate and graduate students, adjunct instructors, faculty, administrators and faculty emeriti.
Additional details are below.

As the semester draws to a close, the Fordham Libraries have enacted the following measures:
The Libraries expect to open renewals by May 5, 2021, to coincide with the last day of classes for the Spring 2021 semester. Students must be registered for courses for Summer 2021 OR Fall 2021 semesters, and adjunct faculty must be teaching in Summer 2021 OR Fall 2021 semesters, in order to renew library materials.
Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org to request renewals after May 5.
Recalls will continue to be processed by Library staff throughout the spring and summer so that the Library collection may be shared among our student and faculty community. If someone else has requested a book you have checked out, it is your responsibility to return the item to the Libraries as soon as possible for the next person's use. Recall notices will be sent to your Fordham email account; please do not ignore them. As well, recalled books that are not returned will accrue overdue fines, even if you have left campus already.
Holds on your library checkouts also will continue to be processed by Library staff throughout the spring and summer. Items that have current holds on them cannot be renewed beyond the courtesy extended due date of June 1. If someone else has a hold on a book you have checked out, it is your responsibility to return the item to the Libraries on or before June 1 for the next person's use. Overdue fines will accrue on items that could not be renewed because someone else has requested them.
Please contact email@example.com if you have questions about recalls or items you could not renew because they have holds on them.
When and where can I return my checkouts?
The campus libraries at Rose Hill, Lincoln Center and Fordham Westchester expect to operate, and be available for students and faculty, through final exams this semester. For specific library hours, please visit www.fordham.edu/library.
Starting May 3, all current checkouts with a due date in May 2021 will be extended automatically to a new due date of June 1, 2021. You need not do anything to receive this courtesy extension.
To return your checkouts, simply drop materials in the book bins located outside your campus library. If you are not regularly on campus, you can ship/mail your books back to the Libraries using either mailing address below. Please note: All shipping/mailing fees are at your own expense.
Where do I ship/mail my Library returns?
To return books by mail, please ship packages at your own cost to any of these addresses:
Fordham University, Walsh Library, Circ Dept., 441 E. Fordham Rd., Bronx, NY 10458
Fordham University, Quinn Library, Circ Dept., 140 W. 62nd St., New York, NY 10023
Fordham University, Westchester Library, Circ Dept., 400 Westchester Ave., West Harrison, NY 10604
Note: Books borrowed from the Walsh, Quinn and/or Fordham Westchester libraries can be returned together to any of the library addresses listed above.
Didn't the Library pay for return shipping last year? Are you doing that again?
The Libraries did send out shipping labels last May to assist students with returning their checkouts while the buildings were completely closed and Library staff were not permitted campus access. However, the Libraries are open and available to students and faculty this semester to return materials in person. Those who cannot travel to a campus are welcome to ship/mail their returns at their own expense, and Library staff are available to process shipped materials as soon as they are received.
Are there any specific restrictions for accessing the campus to return my books?
The Libraries follow all campus Covid guidelines and we accept returns at the book bins located outside your campus library. For individuals who have not been coming to campus and/or have not enrolled in the daily Vital Check monitoring, please contact Public Safety for specific questions about accessing the campuses.
When can I start renewing my checkouts again?
The Libraries expect to open renewals on May 5, 2021. Students either may return their current checkouts to their campus library, or they may request additional renewals by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org as long as they are registered for Summer 2021 OR Fall 2021 classes. Library privileges will not be extended beyond June 1 if students are not registered for the Summer 2021 OR Fall 2021 semesters, and all checkouts will need to be returned to the Libraries on or before June 1.
What about faculty? How do faculty return their library materials?
Full-time faculty, University administrators, faculty emeriti and adjunct instructors also will receive a courtesy extension of their due dates to June 1. Materials no longer needed for your teaching or research can be returned to the Libraries by utilizing the book bins located outside their campus library or by shipping/mailing the items back to the Libraries using the addresses listed above. For specific library hours, please visit www.fordham.edu/library.
Can faculty renew their library materials?
Yes, full-time faculty, University administrators and faculty emeriti, as well as adjunct instructors with a Summer 2021 or Fall 2021 teaching assignment, may renew their Library materials after May 5. As long as no one has requested any of your current checkouts, they can be renewed to a new due date that corresponds to your user profile. Materials that have been requested by another library user must be returned to the Libraries as soon as possible.
I am graduating this semester, but I still have library books. Will that affect my graduation status?
If you are graduating from the University this May, then your library privileges and the ability to checkout materials will expire on May 21. Although we will extend your due dates to June 1, all borrowed library materials will need to be returned on or before June 1, 2021, in order to clear your library account. Renewals beyond that extended due date will not be possible for students who have graduated in May.
While your graduation status will not be impacted negatively by your library record, failure to return your library checkouts on or before June 1, 2021, will result in a library hold being placed on your student account. A hold on your account prevents you from requesting official transcripts from the University until your record is cleared. Lost-replacement fees also will be assessed on your account for any items not returned on or before June 1, 2021.
I received an email notice that says a book I borrowed has been "recalled" and needs to be returned immediately. Aren't my library materials all due on June 1 now?
Recalls--when the Library asks you to return a book so someone else may use it--will continue to be processed throughout the spring and summer. You will be expected to ship/mail the recalled item(s) to the Libraries at your own cost to either of the library addresses listed above by the shortened due date listed in the recall email notice. Recalled books that are not returned will accrue overdue fines even if you have left campus already.
I tried renewing my books, but some could not be renewed. Why?
Items cannot be renewed for one of two reasons:
Renewals can be processed only for those students who are registered for Summer 2021 or Fall 2021 classes, and for those adjunct instructors with a teaching assignment for the Summer 2021 or Fall 2021 semesters.
Or, someone else has requested an item you have checked out, which prevents you from renewing it beyond the current due date. Items requested by another library user must be returned to the Libraries for that patron's use. Please see the first FAQ for how to return your items.
I am currently overseas. How can I return my library materials?
You can ship the library materials to the Libraries at your own cost to either of the library addresses listed above. Before shipping your materials internationally, please contact email@example.com so we can determine if there are other options for your specific situation.
What do I do if I have materials checked out from the Law Library?
Please visit Library Services During Covid-19 on the Maloney Law Library's web page for details.
I have a question you have not addressed here. Whom do I contact?
Please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org, and we will be happy to answer your question.
